Our client is a multi-disciplined Survey and Engineering firm based in Minnesota, with a strong Civil engineering backbone and a growing presence in renewable energy.

In this role, the Instrument Operator will assist the Crew Chief in the operation of a field survey crew, ensuring the quality of work, safety, and maintenance of equipment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Operating survey equipment, maintaining a safe work environment, and protecting and maintaining equipment and vehicles.
  • Accurately collecting field data and locating features.
  • Recording accurate and clear surveying notes.
  • Setting wooden stakes and iron rods, cutting and clearing brush, trees, etc.
  • Adhering to the company's Safety, Quality Management, and Equipment Maintenance policies.

Physical Requirements

The ideal candidate will be physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments, able to carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings, and able to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances.

Required Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Three to four years of progressive experience in land survey field operations and proficiency with land survey equipment (total stations) and GPS.
  • Good technical skills and process-oriented behavioral traits, including being steady, helpful, analytical, a problem solver, and detail-oriented.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Comfortable working at heights and on water bodies as required.
  • OSHA 10 and CPR/First Aid certification or the ability and willingness to acquire it.
  • The ability to operate with a high degree of independence and excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to travel.
