Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Senior Mechanic to join our team at the New York Blood Center. As a Senior Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing a variety of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work, as well as handling general building issues and ensuring all equipment runs properly and efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Complete work orders involving the replacement of electrical components, repairing plumbing fixtures, repairing/replacing ceiling tiles, repairing leaking roofs, general carpentry, and other related activities
  • Build new storage space, office space, sidewalks, retaining walls, and hallways
  • Inspect rooftops, walls, walkways, light fixtures, windows, drains, etc., for preventive maintenance needs
  • Troubleshoot and perform various electrical work
  • Locate the cause of general building and process system malfunctions
  • Handle various plumbing tasks involving a variety of materials (copper, PVC, brass, and stainless materials)
  • Evaluate refrigeration system performance and make necessary repairs
  • Organize work assignments and small projects where more than one mechanic is needed
  • Monitor Building management System (BMS) and Isensix System
  • Maintain all records and logs
  • Prepare various reports
  • Handle other related functions as needed
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years' experience handling general building issues along with the repair and maintenance of equipment
  • Ability to operate hand/power tools properly and safely
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, multi-tasking, and oral/written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • NYBC vehicle will be used to drive between the 6 Long Island donor sites as needed
