Become an integral part of a premier academic healthcare institution, UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital, serving as an Armed Public Safety Officer within the Safety Department. This role is exclusively onsite, requiring residency in the greater Chicagoland area.

Role Summary:

As a member of the Public Safety team at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, you will contribute to creating a secure and protected environment across our main medical campus and affiliated Family Care Centers. This position involves working with a distinguished group of professionals who prioritize safety and responsiveness. Please note that travel is a component of this role, and training will be conducted at our main medical campus before deployment to various sites as necessary. The position is physically demanding and entails outdoor work in diverse weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to emergencies (e.g., fire, bomb threats, combative individuals) on campus, taking appropriate actions to mitigate risks.
  • Conduct thorough patrols of all facilities and grounds, identifying safety violations and suspicious activities.
  • Ensure that security-sensitive areas are properly monitored and secured.
  • Assist in enforcing hospital policies, including access control and safety regulations.
  • Document and investigate safety hazards or incidents that occur on the premises.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding protected health information (PHI).
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency services during campus incidents.
  • Complete detailed incident reports in a timely manner for all relevant occurrences.
  • Provide support in Dispatch operations as needed.
  • Conduct searches for contraband when required.
  • Offer transportation assistance to patients and visitors upon request.
  • Safeguard and inventory patient belongings as necessary.
  • Support clinical staff in the Emergency Department as requested.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in a public safety role (e.g., security officer, police officer, firefighter/EMT) or relevant military service is preferred.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with Ten-Codes.
  • Strong communication skills to interact professionally with all stakeholders, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Good command of the English language for documentation purposes.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Valid Illinois Firearm Owner Identification (FOID) Card.
  • State of Illinois 40-Hour Armed Security Officer Certification.
  • State of Illinois Firearm Control Card (to be obtained post-hire).
  • CPR Certification.
  • CPI Certification (to be completed upon hire).
  • Must achieve IAHSS Basic Certified Healthcare Security Officer certification within six months of appointment.
  • Completion of FEMA ICS 100 and 200 level courses within six months of appointment.

Position Details:

  • Job Type/FTE: 1.00 FTE.
  • Unit/Department: Security.
  • Shift: 12-hour rotating schedule; includes both day and night shifts.
