Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Capital Projects Engineer, you will lead and manage Capital and Expense Projects ranging from $10K to approximately $10MM for Celanese. Your role will encompass project management, technical engineering design, cost estimation, planning, and specification development for the construction of new facilities as well as the modification of existing systems and equipment. You will define the project scope, identify optimal engineering solutions, estimate costs, develop funding requests, and oversee project execution throughout its lifecycle.

  1. Communicate project requirements effectively to site supervision, ensuring team member needs are met to achieve project cost and timeline objectives.
  2. Lead the decision-making process regarding contracting strategies and contractor selection.
  3. Control project costs, forecast expenditures, and report schedules to site supervision. Provide detailed engineering designs for plant expansions and modifications through contracted design groups, coordinating both in-house and external engineering efforts during the project phases.
  4. Participate in project safety reviews, management of change processes, and pre-startup safety reviews, assisting in startup procedures, standard operating procedure development, and training as necessary. Ensure all engineering, maintenance, and operational documentation is organized and accessible at startup.
  5. Draft specifications for equipment, evaluate vendor proposals, and manage procurement to ensure compliance with specifications, delivery timelines, and budgetary controls. Offer engineering consulting services to site teams and assess new project feasibility while promoting innovative technological applications.
  6. Oversee and manage construction activities related to projects, ensuring adherence to approved specifications and designs. Conduct thorough construction checkouts and readiness reviews prior to pre-startup safety reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 2-7 years of experience in a similar engineering role.
  • Proven expertise in project management practices, including cost control, estimating, scheduling (MS Project or Primavera), and forecasting.
  • Ability to plan and organize projects from inception to startup.
  • Strong team player capable of fostering a collaborative environment with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with chemical or refinery facilities and the integration of project work within these environments.
  • Commitment to safety, leading projects with a focus on achieving zero incidents and injuries.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with a capacity to generate and adapt innovative ideas.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree preferred; degrees in Chemical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering are also acceptable with relevant mechanical experience.
  • Experience in project engineering for industrial equipment, piping, heat exchangers, motors, civil structures, and towers.
  • Familiarity with OneSAP and Project Systems module.
  • Understanding of gated work processes for project management.
  • Knowledge of the planning and business aspects of chemical plants.
  • Strong negotiation and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the procurement process.
  • Operational background with performance management capabilities.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Six Sigma certification is advantageous.
