Connersville, Indiana, United States Army National Guard Full time
Job Overview

As a member of the Army National Guard serving as an Indirect Fire Infantryman, you will take charge of the Infantry's most formidable weapon - the mortar. In this role, you will engage in demanding tasks that may involve parachuting from aircraft to reach strategic locations where you will set up mortars and conceal their positions. Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying and neutralizing enemy mines.

Responsibilities

As you develop your skills, your responsibilities will expand. Experienced team members will oversee and mentor fellow Soldiers, lead mortar squads, and provide tactical and technical guidance to subordinates. Key duties include:
  • Setting up, loading, and firing various types of mortars
  • Utilizing crew and weaponry in offensive, defensive, and retrograde ground combat scenarios
  • Operating, maintaining, and storing automatic weapons
  • Employing, firing, and recovering anti-personnel and anti-tank mines
  • Conducting reconnaissance missions to identify enemy troop positions and artillery locations

Essential Skills

To excel in this role, you should possess:
  • A strong interest in weaponry and munitions
  • A willingness to embrace challenges and confront danger
  • Physical and mental fitness

The teamwork, discipline, and leadership abilities you acquire as an Indirect Fire Infantryman will equip you for a successful career in various fields, including federal, state, or law enforcement, as well as other civilian opportunities.

Compensation and Training

Rather than incurring costs to acquire these skills, you will be compensated while you train. In the Army National Guard, you will gain valuable expertise while receiving a regular salary and qualifying for educational assistance.

After completing 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn essential Soldiering skills, you will proceed to 14 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). This training will encompass a mix of hands-on simulated combat and classroom instruction, ensuring you maintain your skills through frequent squad drills, target practice, and tactical exercises.
