About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Geologist to join our team in Rancho Cordova, California. As a key member of our environmental consulting services team, you will provide technical expertise and leadership to support public and private clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise technical assignments, including field and office work, and manage entire projects or specific elements of projects.
  • Direct a team and perform geologic/hydrogeologic interpretation of data at complex sites, including former mining facilities.
  • Provide technical review for projects to comply with environmental laws, company standards, contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Schedule, direct, and supervise field programs and subcontractors as needed.
  • Develop and successfully execute project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Perform business development and marketing activities to capture new clients for WSP USA.
  • Prepare proposals and assist in preparation of large-scale proposals.
  • Direct staff to perform calculations, direct and supervise junior staff to input data into and/or run standard or, in some cases, advanced computer programs.
  • Recognize and identify discrepancies in results obtained in work assignments and follow up with associate/principal personnel to resolve these situations.
  • Responsible for preparing complete drafts of technical reports.
  • Represent WSP USA and interact in a professional manner with clients, regulators, and subcontractors.
  • May travel to project sites primarily in California and Nevada.
  • Understand and apply company, client, and site Health and Safety standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of experience working as a Geologist.
  • Strong work ethic and must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a team and achieve team objectives.
  • Flexible to work outside normal business hours, as required; field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions or hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions.
  • Must pass physical, background check, and must have a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (Motor Vehicle Safety) policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
  • Project management experience/training.
  • PG (California).
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR preferred).
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
  • Understanding of and/or experience with federal projects and CERCLA (Superfund) regulations and processes.
