Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Public Transportation Operator to join our team at the City of Alexandria, LA. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for transporting passengers safely and efficiently on our established routes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a 35,000 pound vehicle on an established route according to a time schedule and pick up and discharge passengers.
  • Drive safely, maintain control of the vehicle, and obey traffic regulations.
  • Provide good customer service and assist passengers in a courteous, responsible, and informative manner.
  • Collect fares from and interact with passengers with a variety of personalities, health issues, abilities, and disabilities.
  • Report delays, mechanical problems, and accidents; respond to emergency situations.
  • Complete daily records and logs and receive safety information.
  • May operate an ADA accessible van.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED; previous experience in the operation of large passenger vehicles, transit operations, and/or transportation is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
  • Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class B commercial driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment.
  • Will be required to obtain a passenger endorsement within thirty (30) days of hire.
