Job Summary

The Capital One Card Technology division is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Director, Software Engineering to lead our team in transforming the way we do business by building world-class technology platforms. As a Senior Director of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for working with senior Technology and Business Executives to understand their vision and translate it into an execution strategy. You will guide software engineering teams responsible for designing and delivering high-quality software for critical business features, built on AWS to the latest technology standards. You will collaborate with Architecture, Card Product, Card Technology, and Enterprise stakeholders to drive this critical project forward. You will provide technology thought leadership and help raise the talent bar by recruiting and hiring top engineering talent. You will also work with product owners to articulate the benefits of proposed solutions, influence the technical roadmap, and help business prioritize work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a large technical team and be a 'leader of leaders'
  • Set and own goals, OKRs, and work backwards from a vision to build a delivery plan
  • Lead the definition of new capabilities, guiding the technical architecture and needs to deliver functions spanning people, process, and technology
  • Partner with Business Leaders to shape and prioritize initiatives
  • Manage the expectations of a diverse stakeholder group as it relates to progress towards delivery
  • Be a strong technologist, able and willing to roll up the sleeves and dive deep into technology, and represent the architecture, identify issues, and ask the right questions

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 9 years of experience in software development
  • At least 7 years of experience in people management
  • At least 2 years of experience with public cloud technologies (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 13+ years of experience in software development
  • 2+ years of experience with Kafka, Streaming, and Event-Driven Architecture
  • 1+ years of experience building and deploying serverless applications
