Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Theatrical Props Coordinator. This full-time position is essential in overseeing the budgeting, acquisition, and fabrication of theatrical props. Reporting directly to the Technical Director, the coordinator will play a vital role in managing the prop shop and ensuring high-quality support for various productions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the financial planning and procurement processes for props.
  • Supervise both student and professional staff within the prop shop.
  • Collaborate with faculty, students, and guest artists on diverse performance projects.
  • Support select initiatives within the scene shop.
Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in theatre or a related discipline is required, along with a minimum of one year of experience in technical theatre. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong organizational and collaborative skills.
  • Effective communication abilities with various stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical procedures related to props management.
  • A commitment to fostering a safe and equitable workplace.
Preferred Skills

Experience in supervising staff, managing budgets, and skills in carpentry, painting, upholstery, and metalwork relevant to props are highly desirable. Familiarity with safety documentation development is also advantageous.

Compensation

The expected salary for this position is $24.00 per hour, which translates to an annualized salary of $48,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This role is classified as non-exempt and includes benefits.
