This role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities essential for the effective operation of Heartland Health Outreach. The Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting clinical staff and community health professionals by managing patient flow, assisting with various healthcare tasks, and executing related administrative duties. This position emphasizes providing exceptional service to clients while upholding patient confidentiality, demonstrating cultural competence, and adhering to established job parameters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates patient movement by escorting individuals from the waiting area to examination rooms, ensuring efficient use of space to minimize wait times.
  • Prepares patients for appointments and procedures in accordance with established protocols, including obtaining vital signs and documenting patient concerns.
  • Handles necessary paperwork for procedures, lab tests, and referrals, ensuring proper documentation for provider signatures.
  • Assists healthcare providers and nurses during procedures, including urgent medical situations, while adhering to established protocols.
  • Administers medications and immunizations under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician, ensuring accurate documentation of all administered treatments.
  • Responds to patient inquiries regarding prescriptions and lab results, coordinating with pharmacies as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Maintains a clean and organized patient care environment by preparing and stocking examination rooms and ensuring the proper care of medical equipment.
  • Upholds patient confidentiality in all interactions, understanding the legal implications of breaches in confidentiality.
  • Assists in specimen collection and processing, performing basic laboratory tests as permitted by relevant regulations.
  • Complies with OSHA standards and infection control protocols.
  • Engages in health screenings, educational initiatives, and team meetings to promote a collaborative work environment.
  • Performs clerical duties to support the efficient operation of the practice.
  • Conducts wound care and provides patient education on various health topics.
  • Adheres to professional standards set by regulatory bodies and participates in ongoing training to maintain compliance.
  • Completes additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are required:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED and completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
  • Certifications: CPR certification and either AAMA CMA or AMT RMA certification. Candidates must pass certification exams during their probationary period.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish may be required.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this position include regular communication, standing, walking, and the ability to handle medical instruments.

Work Environment: Employees may encounter moderate noise levels and potential exposure to health hazards typical in healthcare settings.
