Position Overview
This role entails providing essential support to all individuals engaging with the courts in Maury County.

Key responsibilities include managing the opening and closing of courtrooms, ensuring a continuous presence during judicial sessions, making necessary announcements, and upholding proper order and decorum throughout court activities.

Additional tasks involve delivering written notifications, guidance, and information to attendees of court sessions.

Incumbents may occasionally face potentially hazardous situations involving criminal defendants, their associates, and family members, necessitating a prompt response to emergencies and lockdown scenarios as per established crisis protocols.

Successful candidates will possess significant experience in correctional environments and/or law enforcement, alongside strong organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making abilities. Physical strength and agility are required to manage the demanding aspects of the role, along with a comprehensive understanding of courtroom procedures and relevant operational policies.

Performance will be assessed by current Court Judges based on the effectiveness of courtroom operations, the ability to maintain control during proceedings, interactions with inmates and their families, and adherence to judicial regulations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the opening and closing of courtrooms while maintaining a vigilant presence during sessions.
  • Make necessary announcements to individuals present in court.
  • Ensure appropriate order and decorum is upheld during judicial proceedings.
  • Facilitate the involvement of various entities engaged with the court, including attorneys and victim advocates.
  • Provide written notifications to defendants regarding upcoming court dates.
  • Offer guidance and information to attendees of court sessions.
  • Assist law enforcement in managing disruptive behavior when required.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as answering phones and managing documents.
  • Engage with correctional officers and family members of individuals in custody.
  • Assist in the preparation and transfer of necessary documentation for court proceedings.
  • Ensure the availability of supplies and equipment for courtroom activities.
  • Reserve parking for judges and law enforcement as needed.
  • Support the sequestration and accommodation of jurors when necessary.
  • Carry out related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited high school; substantial experience in correctional facilities, law enforcement, or security; ability to effectively interact and maintain control over defendants and the public; physical strength and agility to manage demanding situations; strong interpersonal, decision-making, and organizational skills; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of security protocols for courtroom proceedings, including emergency situations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of legal issues related to courtroom security.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws regarding the custody of offenders.
  • Knowledge of various court proceedings and their respective protocols.
  • Understanding of standard legal documents used in court and their confidentiality.
  • Awareness of established crisis plans for the courthouse.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and lockdowns.
  • Proficiency in operating standard office equipment.
  • Capacity to remain vigilant and aware of potential threats during court sessions.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with correctional staff and the public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Physical capability to manage defendants and family members when necessary.
  • Skill in using office equipment including telephones and copiers.

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • No felony convictions or guilty pleas to serious offenses.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable.
  • Attendance at courtroom security training is mandatory.
