Research Technician

The Martin Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team as a Lab and Research Technician 1-2 or a Laboratory Specialist. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on exciting research projects under the guidance of the principal investigator, contributing to the development of novel anti-cancer drug targets and exploring genes involved in tumor immune evasion.
Job Responsibilities:- Pursue research projects to characterize novel anti-cancer drug targets and explore genes involved in tumor immune evasion.
- Maintain excellent lab records using digital and traditional lab notebooks.
- Present research findings at lab meetings.
- Perform experimental work, including isolation of protein and RNA for western blotting and RNA-seq, standard molecular biology experiments, CRISPR-based genome engineering, standard tissue culture and genetic screens, mouse tumor modeling, and flow cytometry.
- Conduct general lab duties, including ordering and purchasing for the lab, maintaining a clean workspace, and preparing buffers and other reagents.
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
- Previous lab experience, including basic molecular biology skills, flow cytometry, and western blotting.
- Proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to a challenging and fast-paced environment.
- Lab and Research Technician 1: High school diploma or equivalent, at least 1 year of lab experience, or a Bachelor's degree in lieu of experience.
- Lab and Research Technician 2: Associate's degree, at least 2 years of lab experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a related science in lieu of experience.
- Lab Specialist: Bachelor's degree, 2 years of experience, or 4 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
This is a restricted position, and the University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position prior to employment.
