Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Eligibility Advisor III to join our team at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). As an Eligibility Advisor III, you will be responsible for determining eligibility for public assistance programs, including SNAP, Medicaid, and Texas Works. You will work closely with clients to gather information, assess their eligibility, and make determinations. You will also be responsible for mentoring and training new staff, completing unit reports, and responding to complex client complaints.
Key Responsibilities:
• Determine eligibility for public assistance programs, including SNAP, Medicaid, and Texas Works
• Gather information from clients, assess their eligibility, and make determinations
• Mentor and train new staff on eligibility policies and procedures
• Complete unit reports and respond to complex client complaints
• Perform case reviews to determine validity and accuracy of eligibility determinations
• Initiate, monitor, and manage service improvement projects and reports on activities
• Provide general information and assistance to clients regarding programs and application process
• Review suspected fraud cases and make referrals to investigators
Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited college or university or relevant customer service experience
• A minimum of twelve (12) months experience as a Texas Works Advisor or Medicaid Eligibility Specialist within the last five (5) years
• Recent experience in SNAP, Medicaid, and/or Medicaid for the Elderly and People with Disabilities (MEPD) policy and procedures
• Experience using manual and/or automated systems to determine eligibility for SNAP, TANF, and Texas Works Medicaid programs
• Current TIERS and Eligibility Workload Management System (EWMS) experience
• Experience working in a professional customer service environment
• Preferred experience in evaluating case records in relation to agency standards for quality and timeliness
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
• Willingness to work beyond normal work hours and travel as required
Working Conditions:
• This is a temporary position that is expected to end on 08/31/2025
• Upon hire, the selected candidate will be required to sign a Temporary Employment Agreement
• Temporary employees may be eligible to transfer to a regular status vacant position, contingent upon regular status position availability, tenure, and job performance
• Employees may be required to work overtime, as required by management, outside of normal hours of operation, which may include weekends
