Position Overview
We are seeking qualified candidates for the role of Streets / Storm Water Operator I / II, based on individual qualifications. This position involves a variety of essential maintenance tasks related to the City’s storm water drainage systems and public roadways.
Compensation
Operator I salary range: $20.92/hr to $29.28/hr
Operator II salary range: $22.58/hr to $31.61/hr
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain public infrastructure and grounds.
- Clear weeds and brush from rights-of-way.
- Operate various equipment including tractors, riding mowers, and small trucks.
- Handle heavy materials, including loading and unloading from vehicles.
- Repair road surfaces using asphalt or rock, and replace pavement as necessary.
- Install and replace street signage and lighting components.
- Transport tools and equipment across departments.
- Conduct inspections and maintain equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
- Document completed work and maintain current knowledge of maintenance techniques.
- Engage with co-workers and the public in a professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- CDL must be obtained within six months of employment.
Experience:
- Minimum of one year of relevant experience in Public Works.
- Experience operating light and heavy machinery is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with public works operations, including street repair and maintenance.
- Understanding of safety practices and potential hazards in public rights-of-way.
- Basic mathematical skills as required for the role.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Capability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Skill in making independent decisions when necessary.
- Ability to read and interpret maps and technical documents.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships.
- Competence in maintaining accurate records and reports.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual tasks.
Working Conditions
- Work may involve exposure to hazardous conditions.
- Noise levels are typically high due to outdoor work environments.
