POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Equipment Technician will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities including setting up, operating, monitoring, troubleshooting, and conducting preventive maintenance on designated machinery. This role also involves inspecting components to ensure they meet specifications and making necessary adjustments or tool changes to uphold quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate production machinery in alignment with Astec's operational guidelines.
  • Adjust machine settings to ensure accurate task completion.
  • Conduct pre-operation checks to guarantee proper equipment functionality.
  • Execute tasks based on provided blueprints with precision.
  • Maintain a comprehensive log of daily activities and machine operations.

Essential Skills & Duties

  • Familiarity with basic machine safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to read blueprints and perform basic mathematical calculations, including geometry and metric conversions.
  • Proficient in using measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, and levels.
  • Capable of safely operating hand tools, including hammers, wrenches, and grinders.
  • Vigilantly monitor machinery during operation, remaining within the immediate work area to respond swiftly to any issues.
  • Read and interpret cut lists, possessing a fundamental understanding of materials, particularly various types of steel.
  • Safely operate cranes and forklifts as required.
  • Perform layout work as necessary.
  • Review operator manuals for machinery to ensure safe and effective operation, including preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Collaborate with fellow operators and team members to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Keep the workspace organized and free of hazards.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Relevant coursework from trade school or college is advantageous.
  • Experience in blueprint reading is a plus.
  • 0-2 years of experience in heavy equipment manufacturing is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including file management, are desirable.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and learn machine operation; training will be provided.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Good troubleshooting abilities, with a focus on maintaining quality and diagnosing issues.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing environment where employees may encounter moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools, and equipment. There may be exposure to vibrations, fumes, airborne particles, and various weather conditions. The noise level can be high, typical of an industrial assembly facility, and hearing protection may be required.
