About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Surgical Division as a Co-op in R&D. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting Product Development Engineers and Managers in the design, development, and testing of orthopedic implants and instruments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development of new product designs, working closely with cross-functional teams to identify surgeon requirements and product characteristics.
  • Assist in the creation of product designs, using 3-D modeling to document designs and design changes.
  • Contribute to the completion of the Design Dossier.
  • Participate in surgeon symposia, focus groups, and KOL meetings to gather insights and feedback.
  • Assist in road mapping projects to identify future product development opportunities.
  • Attend surgeries for learning purposes and to gather hands-on experience.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Work with marketing and customers to develop conceptual designs, presenting designs back to customers for evaluation.
  • Maintain all documentation necessary for a Design History File (DHF), including Design Input Documents, Design Validation Plans/Reports, Test Protocols/Reports, and Design Input/Output Matrix.
  • Develop project plans using appropriate planning software and report on project progress to upper management.
  • Develop detail engineering drawings, CAD modeling, and release through ECO system.
  • Work with internal prototype shops or contract with vendors to develop prototypes.
  • Schedule and direct product team meetings as needed, ensuring timely project execution.
  • Maintain existing product lines and write ECOs for general product improvement.
Requirements
  • Must complete at least the first two years of undergraduate degree in engineering and maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
  • Working on completion of a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bio-medical Engineering with mechanical track emphasis, or equivalent.
  • Extreme interest in medical devices and/or orthopedics is required.
