Behavioral Therapist

HealthRIGHT 360's residential substance use disorder (SUD) program is a program contracted with Department of Public Health's (DPH) Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) program for residential drug Medi-Cal (DMC) services for up to 99 adult men and women, including 33 beds for men who are judicially involved, 33 beds for men, and 33 beds for women.
The residential DMC program works closely with other BHC programs to provide a continuum of services for low-income/Medi-Cal populations. The program is located on the campus of Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital in the Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles and will serve all LA County residents.
The Therapist is a registered professional who maintains a current registration with the BBS or CBP. The Therapist is responsible for clinical assessment, diagnoses, treatment planning, intervention, crisis intervention, and discharge planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides thorough clinical assessment and diagnoses.
- Works with the client to develop the client-centered treatment plan.
- Monitors treatment progress and updates the treatment plan as needed.
- Addresses mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms using individual, group, and/or family treatment.
- Provides thoughtful discharge planning to ensure the client safely transitions.
- Provides crisis assessment and intervention as needed.
- Seeks clinical consultation throughout the treatment episode and when encountering new and/or high-risk clinical circumstances.
- Works collaboratively with other members of the treatment team, including the Case Manager, Counselor, Medical, and Psychiatrist.
- Maintains frequent communication with the treatment team and engages in regular consults, clinical team, case conferences, and plan development meetings.
- Delivers services in outpatient, residential, or field settings depending on assignments and client need.
- Assists with crisis assessment, crisis intervention, and symptom management within assigned programs by providing 24-hour 7-day-per-week after-hours coverage on rotation with other Clinical Therapists.
- Meets expected client care hours (productivity expectation is 25 client care hours per week).
Clinical Documentation:
- Writes and completes all progress notes within 72 hours of service delivery.
- Maintains compliance with due dates for all clinical documentation, including assessment, treatment plan, treatment plan updates, re-assessments, discharges, outcome measures, and other clinical documents.
- Writes client progress letters and court reports and obtains final approval from the supervisor.
- Documentation must maintain compliance with agency policy and procedures, HIPAA, 42-CFR, DMH, and SAPC standards.
- Completes all assigned URCs within a timely manner.
Training, Supervision, and Quality Improvement:
- Maintains full compliance with BBS or CPB regulations.
- Attends and actively participates in Clinical Group Supervision.
- Actively participates in agency and team meetings.
- Participates in training opportunities and pursues certifications in Evidence-Based Practices.
- Communicates collaboratively with all members of the behavioral health team, including medical, mental health, psychiatry, substance use disorder, and other staff.
- Completes all assigned trainings and Relias trainings in a timely manner.
Professionalism and Other Duties:
- Arranges work schedule in accordance with the agency's needs.
- Attends regular staff meetings and other meetings as assigned.
- Reads emails daily and responds when appropriate.
Education Requirements
Education and Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- MSW, MFT, LPCC, or PsyD from a regionally accredited graduate school and registration with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) or the California Board of Psychology (CBP) and in good standing with the Board.
Experience
Preferable a minimum of two years' experience providing DMH or SAPC services as a therapist.
Preferable experience treating clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
Knowledge of and experience with providing trauma-informed services.
Strong computer skills, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Background Clearance Required
Live scan fingerprint clearance.
Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including booster shots; there are no medical or religious exemptions available for this position.
Knowledge Required
Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Outlook, and internet applications.
Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self-sufficiency.
