Job Description:

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) requires a Senior Applications DBA to support the migration of Oracle databases from on-premises to AWS cloud and provide development support for various applications in the NC FAST system.

This role involves managing the application schema, design, and extensions within the database for development, test, and production environments for Oracle databases on Linux platforms.

The responsibilities also include database technical support, performance tuning, application administration, and consulting, as well as providing support for Oracle, Oracle Data Guard, and Oracle Golden Gate.

This resource will play a key role in managing Oracle databases on cloud platforms like AWS, leading the development of procedures and best practices for effective database management for high-volume application systems, and providing database solutions for application modernization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provision and manage Oracle database instances on AWS/Linux
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot Golden Gate for batch and online process synchronization for high-volume databases
  • Set up replication and high availability for Oracle databases using tools like Golden Gate
  • Monitor Oracle database performance
  • Troubleshoot Oracle database problems
  • Perform backups and restores of Oracle databases
  • Work with application developers to identify and refine data requirements, table/database design, and assist in SQL writing

Required/Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrable skills in designing schema, access patterns, locking strategy, SQL development, and tuning Oracle databases in an enterprise environment
  • Modifying the database structure, creation, and update to existing database objects per application needs
  • Experience in configuring, monitoring, and cache management for Oracle database servers
  • Strong experience in allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system
  • Experience in implementing and supporting Oracle on AWS, including EC2, RDS, and S3
  • Experience authoring code in SQL, PL/SQL on Unix/Linux
  • Proficiency in one or more shell scripting languages
  • Hands-on experience enrolling users and maintaining system security, controlling user access to the database, and locking down host access
  • Monitoring performance metrics, response times, and request rates
  • Designing and implementing backup/restore services and disaster recovery (DR) solutions
  • Installing and upgrading the database software, patching the software that powers the database
  • Good analytical, technical, time management, and communication skills
  • Participate in on-call rotation and weekend work
  • Experience with advanced security and Oracle Data Guard replication
  • Experience in Oracle Data Masking and Subsetting
  • Demonstrable skills with Cúram Software and database schema
