Job Title: Mechanic Helper

Job Summary:

The Mechanic Helper is a crucial member of our team at Trail Boss, responsible for assisting skilled tradespeople in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, heavy equipment, buses, and vans. This role requires a strong understanding of safety protocols, mechanical systems, and diagnostic techniques.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the performance of maintenance and repair activities, including services and repairs of various systems on automobiles, buses, and vans.
  • Conduct safety checks and assist in the repair and adjustment of vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments on fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches.
  • Assist with engine overhauls, replaces engines, and rebuilds components.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions using diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.
  • Communicate with other mechanics about repair work needed and enter repair information in fleet maintenance management software.
Requirements:
  • Completion of high school or GED.
  • Preferred: Class B CDL with airbrakes endorsement, technical training, or formal apprenticeship/trade school.
  • Must pass DOT pre-employment, drug screen, and background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year of experience assisting skilled tradespeople in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, heavy equipment, buses, and vans.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and engines.
  • Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of motorized vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of body and frame construction.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools, gas and electric welding equipment, mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions.
  • Ability to read manuals and schematics.
  • Ability to rebuild engines and major driveline components.
  • Ability to communicate with other mechanics about repair work needed.
  • Ability to enter repair information in fleet maintenance management software.
