Job Description for Department Manager at Runnings

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Department Manager to join our team at Runnings. As a Department Manager, you will be responsible for leading the merchandising and sales efforts within your assigned department, providing exceptional customer service, and working closely with the Store Manager to achieve business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Merchandising and Sales: Direct and coordinate the merchandising of assigned products, set priorities for distribution of new merchandise, and ensure adequate inventory in all areas of the assigned department.
  • Customer Service: Assist customers with purchases, provide excellent customer service, and ensure that safety is practiced when handling merchandise by employees and customers.
  • Team Management: Assist with the training and direction provided to new department team members, work closely with Retail Buyers to ensure awareness of assigned department product needs, and other product information.
  • Store Operations: Ensure that all store operations are running smoothly, and that the department is meeting its sales and profit targets.
Requirements:
  • Education: High School Diploma preferred.
  • Experience: Customer Service training and/or experience preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent customer service skills, ability to work an irregular schedule, frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, long periods of standing, frequent bending and twisting.
Working Environment:

The Department Manager will work in a retail store environment, using a variety of equipment and tools, including computers, calculators, cash registers, telephones, and fax machines.
