Job Overview

AbbVie is seeking a highly skilled Senior Medical Director to lead our Neuroscience Clinical Development team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for designing and implementing clinical development programs that drive innovation and deliver exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and implementation of multiple clinical development programs, leveraging strong medical and scientific principles, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee project-related education of investigators, study site personnel, and AbbVie study staff, ensuring seamless execution and high-quality outcomes.
  • Monitor overall study integrity, review, interpret, and communicate accumulating data on safety and efficacy, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Operations to ensure agreed-upon study enrollment and timelines for key deliverables, driving project success.
  • Assess and report serious adverse events, adhering to corporate policy and regulations.
  • Design, analyze, interpret, and report scientific content of protocols, Investigator Brochures, Clinical Study reports, regulatory submissions, and responses.
  • Supervise Medical and/or Scientific Directors and Clinical Scientists working on the same or related programs, fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Participate in Clinical Strategy Team(s), contributing to the development of a rigorous, cross-functionally-aligned Clinical Development Plan, considering contingencies and alternative approaches.
  • Coordinate and lead scientific and medical activities with internal stakeholders, driving clinical development contributions to due diligence and business development activities.
  • Act as a clinical lead, soliciting opinion leader interactions, and partnering with Medical Affairs, Commercial, and other functions to ensure broad cross-functional perspectives are incorporated into Clinical Development Plans and protocols.
  • Stay abreast of professional information and technology, augmenting expertise in the therapeutic area, and representing AbbVie at key external meetings.
  • Ensure adherence to Good Clinical Practices, pharmacovigilance standards, standard operating procedures, and quality standards in conducting research.
Requirements
  • Medical Doctor (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.), or non-US equivalent of M.D. degree with relevant therapeutic specialty in an academic or hospital environment.
  • At least 5 years (7 years preferred) of clinical trial experience in the pharmaceutical industry, academia, or equivalent.
  • Ability to run a complex clinical research program independently, demonstrating leadership skills and the ability to bring out the best in others.
  • Proven ability to interact externally and internally to support a global scientific and business strategy.
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical trial methodology, regulatory and compliance requirements, and experience in development of clinical strategy and study protocols.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and address complex problems, creating solutions for one or more projects.
