Job Title: District Materials Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced District Materials Engineer to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and manage the District Materials Section, providing technical guidance and expertise in geotechnical and pavement engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and management to the District Materials Section, ensuring the delivery of high-quality materials engineering services.
  • Develop and implement materials engineering programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination of materials engineering activities.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with materials engineering standards and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with contractors, manufacturers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective materials engineering services.
Requirements:
  • Valid Professional Engineer License.
  • Degree in materials engineering, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or related field.
  • Progressively responsible experience in materials and civil engineering principles and practices related to highway design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Experience in soils, geotechnical engineering, and materials investigations, pavement engineering, testing, and inspection methods, specifications, and standards.
  • Ability to manage administrative, financial, and technical functions of an engineering work unit.
