The Plate Roll Operator is responsible for utilizing rolling machinery to shape metal plates, sheets, or bars into various forms such as arcs, cylinders, or cones. This role requires the interpretation of blueprints and templates, along with a solid understanding of geometry and the physical characteristics of metals to effectively set up machinery and determine the sequence of operations. The operator will manually position the workpiece into the machine or utilize a crane for larger pieces.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Modify the roll settings between passes to achieve the desired shape of the workpiece.
  • Utilize templates to measure arcs accurately.
  • Input specifications of the workpiece into the rolling machine.
  • Recognize and report any equipment or material issues to the supervisor.
  • Adjust the roll to create conical shapes as required.
  • Correct any warping or bending in bars or plates by adjusting the roll.
  • Reprocess cylinders post-welding to ensure quality.
  • Verify the roundness of completed cylinders.
  • Operate additional computer numeric controlled machinery as necessary to fulfill production goals.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operating a forklift and overhead crane.
  • Interpret and read blueprints effectively.
  • Utilize a tape measure accurately.
  • Carry out other assigned tasks as needed.
