Job Title: Project Manager

Virginia Paving Company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise on-site Project Superintendents and Project Engineers.
  • Prepare all notification documents regarding power, water, fire utilities.
  • Responsible for the technique, economic, and operations plan.
  • Negotiate with clients.
  • Participate in the estimating process.
  • Optimize operations means and methods with Project Engineers.
  • Control the progress of the operation to meet objectives.
  • Determine suppliers and subcontractors in tandem with the Division Manager and the Contracts Department.
  • Develop project schedule.
  • Prepare and assist in weekly project update meetings.
  • Participate in the division weekly meetings.
  • Ensure project quality and respect commitments with clients.
  • Review and approve all change order requests.
  • Complete project budget.
  • Control project expenses.
  • Responsible for budget.
  • Responsible for billing control.
  • Approve invoices.
  • Prepare the final quantities report.
  • Actively participate in the training of all Construction Engineers.
  • Actively participate in recruiting candidates.
  • Responsible for Performance Evaluations for all employees assigned to the project.
  • Recommend and propose technical solutions (innovative products and processes).
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients.
  • Participate in the final acceptance of the project.
  • Responsible for maintaining safety on the project at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (or equivalent work experience) and 10+ years on large design-build heavy/highway projects is required.
  • Knowledge of construction technique and practices, paving, underground, concrete, and grading required.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of heavy, civil construction equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of employees.
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
  • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready-mixed concrete.
