Hardware Development Specialist

The Hardware Test Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting product development, from concept through design freeze, executing hardware board-level testing, and driving technical communication between engineering teams and non-technical members. This role requires excellent analytical skills and a keen understanding of hardware systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hardware integration and software testing.
- Understand and evaluate hardware design, including microcontrollers and signal interfaces.
- Interpret schematics/circuit diagrams for testing.
- Use test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Flash software into microcontrollers and validate functionality.
- Perform soldering on SMD components when needed.
- Develop and document hardware test cases and maintain records using tools like DOORS and RTC.
- Work on automotive electronics products including infotainment systems, clusters, radios, and other automotive components.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, software, and mechanical teams.
- Lead technical reviews and drive design improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in automotive electronics hardware design and testing.
- Strong knowledge of automotive embedded systems.
- Experience with electrical signal characterization (e.g., DDR, I2C/SPI/UART buses).
- Experience working in a lab environment with validation equipment such as oscilloscopes and power supplies.
- Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments related to automotive product development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with automotive infotainment and electronic product design.
- Strong experience in system integration and testing methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with hardware design tools like Altium Designer or Mentor Graphics.
Certifications (if any)
- Relevant certifications in automotive electronics or hardware testing are a plus.
Additional Responsibilities
- Design hardware components, schematics, and maintain BOMs for product development.
- Conduct pre-compliance testing for embedded hardware.
- Lead design reviews, apply DFMEA principles, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards for EMI/EMC and environmental endurance tests.
- Mentor and manage junior engineers, providing feedback and guidance.
- Interface with customers, provide technical support, and manage defect resolution processes.
- Manage project timelines, ensure quality and adherence to design standards, and create documentation for hardware designs.

Knowledge Examples
- Understanding of digital design, analog design, and power supply design.
- Expertise in microcontroller and processor architectures, interfacing protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, RS232), and sensor-based analog design.
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC compliance standards and PCB design techniques for multi-layer high-speed PCBs.
- Proficient in CAD tools like Altium Designer and Cadence OrCAD for schematic and PCB design.
