Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled carpenter to join our team at UIC Alaska. As a carpenter, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to construction, including general construction work, civil and form work, structural steel stud and shear wall framing, roof built up assembly, and finish carpentry skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
  • Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
  • Follow established safety rules, regulations, and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
  • Install structures or fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, trim, or hardware, using carpenters' hand or power tools.
  • Verify trueness of structure, using plumb bob and level.
  • Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, or power tools.
  • Assemble and fasten materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools, wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using hand tools.
  • Inspect ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures.
  • Operate basic construction equipment such as forklifts and man-lifts.

Requirements:

  • At least ten (10) years of verifiable experience in carpentry.
  • Must possess and maintain current driver's license.
  • Ability to withstand extreme temperatures (cold and hot).
  • Ability to work in a clean and neat manner and with respect to owner's property and operations.
  • Knowledge of general, basic construction techniques and safe working practices is essential.

Work Environment:

The work environment is that of a construction site. Will be working in close proximity to moving equipment.

Additional Information:

The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of carpenter shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. The wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment mitigates risks associated with these conditions and is mandatory.
