Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team at Recology, a leading provider of waste management services. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our fleet of vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues with heavy equipment and vehicles, including powertrains, drivetrains, electrical systems, and more.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements.
  • Inspect and repair refuse vehicle and transfer trailer body systems, including hydraulic, body control, electrical, and body mechanical systems.
  • Diagnose and repair processing equipment, such as balers, conveyors, hoppers, electric motors, and controls.
  • Perform basic fabrication work using welding equipment, torches, tools, and machinery.
  • Order and maintain shop parts, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Accurately complete paperwork and computer database entries related to work performed.
  • Act as a lead worker, instructing and directing others by assigning, reviewing, and checking work.
Requirements
  • Four years of progressively responsible mechanical experience as a journeyman mechanic (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Waste and recycling industry experience preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of DOT Out-of-Service Criteria, including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT compliance audits.
  • Experience working in a maintenance facility or related environment with vehicles, processing equipment, and heavy equipment.
  • Expert knowledge of diesel and/or compressed natural gas engines, heavy equipment mechanical components, and parts, as well as fabrication tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of alternating and direct current electrical controls and motor systems.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local job site health and safety rules, regulations, and best practices.
  • Basic computer programs.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Graduation from a formalized mechanical trade school highly desirable.
  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Drivers License with no restrictions required within 12 weeks of hire.
