Chief Surveyor

Are you a skilled surveyor looking for a challenging role in a dynamic organization? We are seeking a Chief Surveyor to join our team at the City of Toledo.

The Chief Surveyor will be responsible for planning, evaluating, conducting, and directing surveying activities. This includes managing land survey projects, giving direction to survey crews, and supervising the operation of survey instruments and equipment.

• Manage land survey projects in various areas, including boundary, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, transportation/right-of-way, topographic, utility, and construction staking.
• Give direction to survey crews and technicians in obtaining alignment, topographic, cross-sectional, horizontal, and vertical information necessary for engineering design and construction of roadway, utility, and bridge projects.
• Supervise crews in the operation of all survey instruments and equipment and provide training as required.
• Review work of surveying staff and outside consultants.
• Provide guidance and direction to upper management within areas of surveying and land description.
• Identify and establish land boundaries and legal descriptions of land for conveyance and recording purposes or to determine encroachments in the public right-of-way.
• Review, sign, and certify topographic maps, survey plats, and other documents as a registered surveyor.
• Meet with public, property owners, and public officials regarding surveys, existing and proposed right-of-way plans, and/or prepare descriptions for acquisition of property.
• Provide survey-related information to other City offices, contractors, developers, attorneys, and the general public.

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering with at least 24 quarter hours or equivalent semester hours of approved surveying courses in surveying directly and mapping arts and sciences.
• Four (4) years of surveying experience with a Professional Surveyor License.
• Must be a licensed Professional Surveyor in the State of Ohio or be a licensed Professional Surveyor in another state at the time of application.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
