Aurora, Colorado, United States Field propulsion Technologies Inc. Full time
Job Overview

This essential position focuses on assisting researchers and engineers in the development and evaluation of HF and VHF RF systems to assess composite antennas. The ideal candidate will possess a solid comprehension of antenna architectures and experience in modeling radiation patterns from non-traditional antennas. Responsibilities will include debugging and characterizing HF to VHF RF power systems and antennas. Proficiency in operating various RF testing equipment is a fundamental requirement, along with the capability to tune VHF systems across different frequencies, including strip lines and low-frequency circuits.

We are looking for a proactive individual who can work autonomously as well as collaboratively with researchers to validate a novel mathematical model for radiation. Familiarity with advanced mathematics, including Lorentz transformations and Clifford Algebras, is essential. While an in-depth understanding of these mathematical frameworks is not mandatory, a willingness to learn new mathematical techniques beyond standard college engineering mathematics is crucial. MATLAB will be utilized to model new derivations of Maxwell's equations, and a basic grasp of these derivations will be advantageous. An advanced ARRL license is preferred. A comprehensive understanding of vector equations in electromagnetics is necessary, and knowledge of electromagnetic gauges and their validity is beneficial. This role will leverage advanced technologies to challenge existing electromagnetic gauges, and understanding these physical phenomena is a plus. Strong troubleshooting abilities for antennas and the capacity to resolve radiation challenges are required. We are dedicated to fostering a supportive and collaborative work atmosphere.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site position for a Microwave Systems Engineer at Field Propulsion Technologies Inc. The Microwave Systems Engineer will be integral to our mission, focusing on the development and prototyping of innovative metamaterials utilizing GNTs and CNTs. Responsibilities will include designing and prototyping new composite antennas and integrating these antennas with contemporary HF and VHF power amplifiers. The role will also involve modeling these new antennas and systems using MATLAB or COMSOL, employing Clifford Algebras and other advanced mathematical techniques to simulate radiation patterns and power transfer across various modes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with researchers and technicians to ascertain their specific antenna and power system testing requirements.
  • Develop and implement HF and VHF power systems along with their corresponding antennas.
  • Source HF and VHF equipment and testing apparatus for characterizing composite antennas.
  • Essential familiarity with the setup, operation, and maintenance of RF antenna systems.
  • Screen and characterize various unconventional composite antennas to identify internal and external parameters.
  • Experience in designing and troubleshooting thermal emission devices and circuits is a plus.
  • Provide regular updates on the status of multiple projects.
  • Design tests to confirm and verify product performance.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field, or equivalent experience is required.
  • Understanding of advanced mathematics beyond standard vector equations in physics and electrical engineering is necessary.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
  • Experience in simulating RF circuits using MATLAB or COMSOL is required.
  • Industry experience in RF system design and analysis, particularly in spacecraft applications, is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in designing and troubleshooting antenna and HF and VHF power systems is essential.
Work Environment
