Job Summary

The Director of Maternal Child Health-Nursing is a key leadership position at Cook County Health and Hospitals, responsible for providing clinical direction and leadership for effective management of nursing practices in Maternal Child Health. This role acts as a liaison between physicians and staff to ensure continuity of services and care, maintaining open relationships with leadership and peers across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Oversight: Direct, administer, and coordinate patient care in the Maternal Child Health department, supporting Maternal/Women's Health, Labor & Delivery, Perinatal Health, Infant Health, Pediatrics, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit patient care.
  • Policy Development: Recommend, develop, and implement policies and procedures ensuring multidisciplinary involvement throughout the process to ensure effective department operation and administration.
  • Performance Goals: Establish performance goals and objectives for the Maternal Child Health nursing division in accordance with the Department of Nursing policies and practices.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities to enhance patient care, promoting an awareness of patient rights and ensuring staff are trained and educated accordingly.
  • Staff Management: Participate in interview, selection, and hiring process of new staff, and participate in annual budget process to ensure department operated in compliance with allocated funding.
Requirements
  • Licensure: Licensed Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois or the ability to obtain license within two (2) weeks of starting employment.
  • Education: Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or Business Administration.
  • Experience: Five (5) years progressive administrative/management experience in Maternal Child Health, with three (3) years of prior Director level experience or six (6) years of prior Manager level experience.
  • Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification.
