Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Neutron Chopper Systems Leader to join our team at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of technicians in the assembly, maintenance, installation, testing, and commissioning of neutron chopper systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of technicians in the assembly, maintenance, installation, testing, and commissioning of neutron chopper systems.
  • Responsible for all operating chopper system ancillary equipment.
  • Provide technical support of installed beamline chopper systems operation and provide prompt response to issues during neutron production cycles.

Requirements:

  • A BS degree in a science or engineering related field with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or significant relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrated experience with neutron chopper systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working with complex scientific instrumentation and operating under the constraints of radiological environments associated with a neutron scattering facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience in a highly technical environment.
  • Experience with vacuum, magnets, water, power distribution, and instrumentation/controls systems.
  • Experience with rotating machinery/engines or machine/parts tolerancing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

Special Requirements:

  • Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
