HEAD START PROGRAM

Our Head Start and Early Head Start initiatives aim to support children aged 2 to 5 and their families, equipping them with the necessary skills and stability for a successful transition into kindergarten and beyond. Positions within this program typically operate Monday through Friday.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Early Head Start Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing environment that offers diverse activities to facilitate the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of children, tailored to their individual growth stages. The ultimate goal is to foster social competence among the children.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute the curriculum for children enrolled in both morning and afternoon sessions. Design individual and group activities that encourage learning and promote parental engagement in their child's education. Collaborate effectively with Co-Teachers and Family Advocates to provide families with essential resources;
  • Foster a dynamic learning environment that supports the holistic development of children, ensuring activities are age-appropriate and developmentally suitable;
  • Conduct daily planning for the classroom, maintain accurate records of children's progress in collaboration with Family Advocates, and ensure timely submission of monthly documentation;
  • Observe and assess child development levels, setting individualized goals to support each child's growth;
  • Design a comprehensive program of activities that empowers parents as primary educators of their children;
  • Establish a learning environment that reflects the diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the children and the broader community;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of a fingerprint clearance and background check, including criminal history, personal references, and verification of employment and education;
  • Proof of health clearance upon hiring, including TB clearance, annual influenza vaccination, and immunizations for pertussis and measles;
  • Health screening at the time of employment;
  • Ability to engage with children in a lively environment, including the capacity to lift up to 50 lbs, frequently kneel and squat, and move swiftly;

EDUCATION:

  • Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field;
  • A minimum of 24 units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 2 years of teaching experience;
  • A minimum of 1 year in a supervisory role.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of management coursework;
  • Possession of a Child Development permit;
  • 4 years of teaching experience;
  • Familiarity with Head Start performance standards;
  • Experience with creative curriculum approaches;
  • Knowledge of licensing regulations;
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (both written and verbal).
