Position Overview: The Lead Tax Strategy Manager will oversee critical responsibilities centered around three primary pillars: Technical & Quality Expertise, People & Talent Management, and Client Service/Business Development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional advisory and planning services in sales and use tax for multi-state enterprises, dedicating approximately 60% of your time to this function.
- Drive the growth of the State and Local tax practice by cultivating new revenue streams from existing clients, cross-selling services, and establishing new client relationships, which will take up about 30% of your time.
- Act as a Career Advisor, mentor, or coach to one or more team members, providing constructive and timely performance feedback, which will account for around 10% of your time.
- Integrate seamlessly with clients, local and regional RSM SALT teams, the broader RSM tax team, and colleagues in audit and consulting.
- Manage various sales and use tax consulting projects, including technical research memoranda, nexus studies, exposure quantification, voluntary disclosures, audit defense and appeals, reverse sales tax audits, ASC 450 reviews, due diligence, and other state tax consulting initiatives.
- Lead and nurture the business relationships of complex engagements, focusing on delivering high-value, quality tax advice while seeking to expand services to clients.
Basic Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Possession of one of the following credentials: CPA, CMI, JD, or LLM.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in providing sales and use tax consulting services within a public accounting, consulting, or legal environment.
- In-depth knowledge of various state and local sales and use tax laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, along with expertise in tax planning, restructuring, due diligence, audit defense, reverse audits, and state controversy work.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the capacity to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
