Job Summary

This role involves teaching and guiding preschool-age children in a model laboratory school setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in early childhood education and be able to develop and implement engaging lesson plans.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement curriculum for preschool-age children, incorporating the principles of the model laboratory school and NAEYC accreditation standards.
  2. Prepare the classroom environment to provide a high-quality learning experience for children, including setting up materials and rotating activities.
  3. Assess children annually using the CT ELDS and document their progress through the Child Profile Sheet.
  4. Support the school in maintaining NAEYC accreditation status by participating in re-accreditation activities and maintaining the NAEYC classroom portfolio.
  5. Communicate regularly with families about their children's activities and progress, and welcome families into the program.
  6. Implement positive classroom management strategies and utilize positive child guidance techniques to support individual children and the community of learners.
  7. Collaborate with the Teacher Assistant to create classroom routines, schedules, and curriculum activities that meet the needs and interests of the group.
  8. Follow school policies and procedures, and submit paperwork in a timely manner.
  9. Continuously grow professionally by attending staff meetings, workshops, and other sources of professional development.

Decision-making is performed independently in planning and implementing curriculum, with some decisions deferred to the Director or Assistant Director.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in an early childhood education program.
  • Experience in a model laboratory school is preferred.

Other qualifications include the ability to work in an active school environment, collaborate with fellow teachers, and possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
