The role of the Transformer Service Specialist (TSS) serves as a crucial liaison between Hitachi Data Systems' Sales teams and our clientele, necessitating travel across various regions.
Collaborating closely with Hitachi's Sales Teams, the TSS will gain access to client locations and identify potential opportunities for the Transformer Service Group.
The TSS is expected to possess a solid understanding of the technical skills outlined below.
Field Service Responsibilities may encompass:
repair and maintenance of electrical components and power transformers, as well as new installations.
The TSS will assist clients in defining project scopes and collaborate with the tendering team to generate quotes that address client needs.
Following up with clients and the Hitachi Data Systems Sales Teams to finalize orders is a key responsibility.
The TSS must adhere to all regulations, policies, work procedures, and safety protocols.
Reporting to the Marketing & Sales Manager for Transformer Services, the TSS will:
Essential Technical Competencies:
Transformer Assembly, Transformer Repairs/Refurbishment/Modifications, Electrical Testing, Controls, Digital Monitoring Equipment, LTC's, Oil Processing, Oil Testing.
Key Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must be capable of operating company vehicles and equipment.
- Availability for travel 50-60% of the time.
- An ideal work schedule includes one week in the office followed by one week on the road.
- Occasional weekend work may be required.
- Receive assignments and instructions from management, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to comprehend client issues and work towards developing effective solutions.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical challenges.
- Knowledgeable in:
- Power Transformers
- Troubleshooting electrical testing/theory
- Troubleshooting transformer controls
- Troubleshooting oil processing
- Expertise in Oil Testing Standards
- Capable of interpreting blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
- Must be able to prepare reports on client visits, outline quotes to address client issues, field reports, daily activity reports, and any other site-specific reports in a timely manner.
- Conduct pre-job and post-job inspections.
- Assist Sales Teams, Tendering Specialists, Safety Managers, and Service Work Planners with on-site project management, including:
- Budget
- Scope of work
- Schedule
- Manpower

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must possess mechanical aptitude, familiarity with hand tools, and understanding of heavy machinery operation.
- Strong customer focus with excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated, positive attitude, and ability to manage and influence without direct authority.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions effectively.
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software.
- Excellent communication skills and understanding of transformer industry specifications for troubleshooting and data analysis.
- Basic project management skills, capable of planning and executing projects, with an understanding of financial concepts.
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in the field of Transformer Repair, preferably as a field crew leader with at least 2+ years of experience, and a high school diploma or equivalent.
