Position Overview

The role involves the diagnostic troubleshooting, repair, and upkeep of intricate electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical biomedical apparatus. This includes devices such as ventilators, anesthesia delivery systems, ultrasound machines, surgical lasers, infusion pumps, patient monitoring systems, and other advanced instrumentation. Additionally, responsibilities extend to the maintenance of non-direct patient care equipment. A foundational understanding of IT and cybersecurity as it pertains to healthcare technology is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and recommend modifications for new, proposed, and existing equipment and maintenance programs.
  • Coordinate vendor services for repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct acceptance inspections of newly acquired biomedical equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturers' safety and operational standards.
  • Complete purchase requisitions for necessary parts and supplies.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to Biomedical Equipment Technicians at lower levels.
  • Perform duties autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of college-level coursework or equivalent training in electronics.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • A minimum of three to five years of expert-level experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Formal education in electronics.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
  • Experience in a healthcare or medical center setting.
  • On-the-job training within a medical facility.
  • Ability to exercise expert judgment in critical situations where patient safety is at stake.
  • Familiarity with regulatory codes and standards applicable to hospitals and clinics.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and email platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in electronics.
  • Certifications from equipment manufacturers.
  • AAMI Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification.
  • Network-related certifications.
  • Experience in an academic healthcare institution.

Special Conditions

  • Participation in a rotating on-call schedule covering nights, weekends, and holidays is required.
  • Willingness to travel for educational opportunities.
  • Flexibility to work various hours and locations based on operational needs.
  • Employment is contingent upon a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Technicians must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to respond to on-site emergencies promptly.

Compensation

The annual full pay range for this position is between $98,491 and $122,482, with the hourly equivalent being approximately $58.66. Compensation is determined based on experience, skills, education, and other relevant factors.
