Position Overview:
The Clinical Respiratory Specialist plays a vital role in the healthcare team by collecting arterial blood samples from patients and ensuring their accurate labeling, preparation, and transportation to the Respiratory Care arterial blood gas analysis laboratory. This position requires proficiency in performing arthrocentesis in designated clinical and outpatient settings. The specialist also contributes to smoking cessation education, provides instruction on incentive spirometry, and ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of respiratory equipment, including high-level disinfection protocols. Additionally, the role involves assisting with the inventory management of all Respiratory Care supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Confirm orders for arterial blood gas analyses.
  • Execute arthrocentesis to gather samples for arterial blood gas evaluation.
  • Accurately prepare, label, and transport samples to the Respiratory Care ABG laboratory.
  • Deliver samples to licensed Respiratory Care professionals for thorough analysis.
  • Maintain stock levels of Respiratory Care supplies across all designated areas.
  • Support educational initiatives for incentive spirometry.
  • Conduct cleaning of equipment and manage the transport of used equipment to the processing area for high-level disinfection.
