Special Education Teacher

Job Summary

The Rankin County School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Visually Impaired Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing support and accommodations to students with visual impairments, ensuring they have equal access to education and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with visual impairments, in collaboration with teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
  • Assess student progress and provide regular progress reports, as required by district and state policies.
  • Provide training and support to teachers and therapists on Braille and other assistive technologies, to enhance their ability to support students with visual impairments.
  • Write and implement IEP goals, and participate in IEP meetings as needed, to ensure students receive the support they need to succeed.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, and ensure confidentiality of student information, in accordance with district and state policies.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, to stay current with best practices and research in the field of special education.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Valid Educator License, with endorsement in Visually Impaired (K-12).
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments, and knowledge of Braille and assistive technologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
