POSITION SUMMARY

The Railcar Cleaning Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing and participating in the daily functions of their designated railcar cleaning site. This role requires exceptional leadership to promote safe work practices, train staff on established processes, ensure compliance with company, customer, and federal regulations, act as the primary contact for local clientele, and maintain a profitable operation.

The Supervisor will keep the Director of Operations informed about any issues related to their responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Complete oversight of a railcar cleaning facility, prioritizing SAFETY and ENVIRONMENTAL standards alongside financial management.
  • Ensure that all employees and the facility comply with the Company's Health and Safety Program.
  • Guide, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of employees in their daily tasks.
  • Directly oversee and ensure that safety, environmental, cleanliness, equipment, and quality standards are upheld.
  • Guarantee proper railcar cleaning in line with company, customer, and industry benchmarks.
  • Meet production deadlines by monitoring workflow and scheduling staff effectively.
  • Ensure all operational documentation is completed accurately and punctually, including daily reports and quality assurance documents.
  • Collaborate with local switch crews to ensure efficient railcar switching operations.
  • Assess production metrics and manage labor costs and supply expenditures.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with vendors to maintain appropriate inventory control, preventing production delays and excess waste.
  • Conduct interviews, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions for current and prospective employees.
  • Anticipate future operational challenges, such as vacations, holidays, and equipment maintenance, in relation to workload requirements.
  • Ensure timecards are accurate and submitted promptly.
  • Provide recommendations to the Director of Operations and COO aimed at continuous process improvements while upholding safety and quality standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

To fulfill the essential functions of this role, candidates must possess the following:

  • Professional and clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and leadership capabilities in a multifaceted work environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Proficient in computer operations, including basic software applications (MS Word, MS Excel), with the ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Attention to detail in drafting, typing, and reviewing materials, as well as establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Problem-solving skills to address operational challenges effectively.
  • Integrity in managing company assets, including inventory, fuel, accounts, tools, and human resources.
  • Physical capability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear necessary safety equipment, including safety shoes, glasses, and hard hats.
  • Pass a company-required physical examination.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Availability for travel as business needs dictate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution is preferred, along with a combination of education and experience. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in freight or tank car operations is preferred, along with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
