Job Summary:

MaineGeneral Health is a comprehensive non-profit system dedicated to enhancing the health of our patients, families, and communities. We're seeking an experienced Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical Oncology team at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta, Maine.

The Role:

The Oncology Clinical Navigator serves as a patient advocate, liaison, and advisor/educator to assist patients with navigating the continuum of care. This role requires strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills, as well as the ability to prioritize workload, handle multiple tasks, and work independently with limited supervision.

Responsibilities:
  • Rounds on/reviews assigned patients regularly and evaluates patient progress with plan of care.
  • Communicates plan of care to patient and family and solicits concerns, questions, and issues for resolution.
  • Provides emotional support, counseling, clinical education, and expert guidance to patients and families to promote their ability to understand and meaningfully participate in the healthcare process and personal decision-making.
  • Serves as a liaison between patient and clinical staff, administration, physicians, managed care companies, and community/external resources to coordinate/maximize resources and identify/resolve barriers to the plan of care.
  • Assists patients and families with resolving financial, psychosocial, functional, and administrative issues by advising of options and referring to appropriate resources.
Requirements:
  • Active Maine RN licensure or ability to obtain same in a timely fashion, required.
  • BS in Nursing, preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience with oncology patients and families, strongly preferred.
  • Oncology Certification (OCN) or defined process for achievement of certification, required.
