Key Responsibilities

- Oversee initial and extended attack fire situations, directing the activities and strategies of firefighters, resources, equipment, and aerial support.
- Implement follow-up measures to effectively manage wildland fire incidents.
- Utilize various interagency wildland fire suppression resources efficiently and effectively.
- Monitor environmental conditions and fire behavior, adjusting strategies and tactics as necessary.
- Select appropriate strategies to ensure safe operations for all assigned personnel and resources.
- Identify potential hazards and deliver operational briefings to the team.
- Ensure the readiness of wildland fire suppression equipment and personnel.
- Manage inventory and accountable property, positioning resources for optimal response.
- Assess equipment and staffing requirements, prioritizing funding requests for personnel and equipment.
Employment Conditions

Qualifications
Experience and Education Requirements:
This position is categorized as a Wildland Fire Operations Specialist (WFOS) - Moderate Complexity under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard. Applicants must meet the minimum qualification standards for IFPM prior to placement.
GS-9: One year of specialized wildland fire experience equivalent to the GS-8 level in the Federal service is required. Examples of specialized experience include:
- Developing and revising fire management plans for long-term wildland fire control and prescribed burns.
- Coordinating preparedness activities related to fire equipment, supplies, and personnel.
- Analyzing incident objectives, strategies, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborating with various agencies to achieve operational goals.
- Assigning missions to ground and aerial fire suppression resources.
- Participating in the development of incident strategies and tactics.
- Conducting field evaluations of proposed burn units and documenting prescribed burn evaluations.
Selective Placement Factors: Applicants must possess the following NWCG incident management qualifications:
- Pathway #1: Task Force Leader (TFLD) or higher, and Incident Commander Type 3 (ITC3) or Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2 (RXB2).
- Pathway #2: Helibase Manager (HEBM) or higher, and Incident Commander Type 3 (ITC3) or higher.
Physical Demands: This position requires arduous physical exertion for extended periods, including running, climbing, and lifting heavy items.
Work Environment: The role involves working in diverse terrains, including forests and deserts, often under extreme weather conditions.
