About the Job

As a Police Officer with the Addison Police Department, you will play a vital role in maintaining public safety and serving the community. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to make a difference in the lives of citizens and contribute to the well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce state and federal laws, as well as City regulations, to prevent and investigate unlawful activities.
  • Patrol the City to identify and respond to suspicious activities and crimes.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, investigating and resolving citizen complaints, traffic incidents, and crimes.
  • Provide scene security for emergency services personnel and communicate with victims, witnesses, and suspects.
  • Investigate crimes and accidents, securing and processing crime and accident scenes, and identifying and collecting evidence.
  • Arrest law violators, transport and process suspects, victims, and prisoners, and provide community-oriented police services.
  • Preserve the peace of the community through mediation, investigation, intervention, assistance, and arrest.
  • Complete detailed reports and required paperwork, and testify in court as directed.
  • Maintain Department vehicle and equipment according to Department standards.
  • Assist and coordinate with other emergency services personnel, regional organizations, and businesses, and federal, state, and local law enforcement organizations.
  • Perform specialized functions in areas of expertise, including special enforcement, assessment, surveillance, intervention, and investigative teams.
  • Maintain the integrity, professionalism, values, and goals of the Addison Police Department.
Requirements
  • Must possess a Basic Peace Officer certification from TCOLE and a valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Must obtain TCOLE Peace Officer License if not already possessed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with fellow employees, Town officials, and outside contractors.
  • Safe driving record.
  • Clear criminal background check and clear pre-employment drug screen.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of modern police principles, methods, and practices.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and local criminal and juvenile laws and statutes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Texas criminal justice and court systems, and the principles of criminal justice records management.
  • Knowledge of duties, powers, authorities, and limitations of a Police Officer.
  • Knowledge of investigative and interrogative procedures, and protocols for observation of critical details.
  • Knowledge of local community issues and regional community resources available to citizens.
  • Knowledge of work safety practices and protocols.
  • Skill in interpreting and applying criminal laws to information, evidence, and other data compiled.
  • Skill in investigating crime scenes, and recognizing evidence and causes of crime, death, and accidents.
  • Skill in the care, maintenance, and safe operation of a variety of firearms, impact weapons, chemical agents, and other law enforcement tools and equipment.
  • Skill in working as a team member with other law enforcement and multi-jurisdictional agencies.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software.
  • Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
