Job Description

Coherent is seeking a highly skilled Senior Principal Optical Transceiver Design Engineer to lead the design and development of our optical transceivers. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-performance optical transceivers that meet the needs of our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Lead the design and development of optical transceivers, including the creation of detailed design specifications, circuit diagrams, and bill of materials.
  • Electrical and Optical Measurements: Conduct electrical and optical measurements of optical transceivers to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Firmware Development: Create firmware requirement documents and work with firmware engineers to develop and test firmware for optical transceivers.
  • Integration and Debugging: Lead the integration of optical, hardware, and firmware components, and debug and troubleshoot optical transceivers to ensure they meet performance and reliability requirements.
  • Documentation and Communication: Create detailed documentation, including drawings, BOMs, and ECOs, to support design and development activities. Interact with program managers, buyers, planners, and suppliers to ensure designed parts are available in a timely manner for engineering and qualification builds.
Requirements
  • Education: B.S. EE degree with 7 years of experience or M.S. EE degree with 5 years of experience required.
  • Skills: Strong analog circuit design skills, strong background in circuit theory, linear system theory, feedback, ICs, and high-speed RF fundamentals, strong laboratory measurement skills, strong communication and presentation skills, experience with high-density multiple-layer board design cycle, experience with electronics CAD tools and electronic system modeling.
Working Conditions
  • Work Environment: Full-time position in Fremont, CA - Milmont Facility.
  • Travel: May require occasional off-site meetings or travel.
  • Physical Requirements: Sitting for extended periods, use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents, occasional lifting of objects or materials up to 20 pounds for administrative tasks.
