Job Summary

This position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in an equitable learning environment. The successful candidate will teach courses via various delivery modes, including on-ground, online, and hybrid or web-enhanced formats, as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in Astronomy or related fields, utilizing the College's learning management system to provide course materials to students.
  • Work collaboratively with course leads and/or program coordinators to ensure consistent and equitable student experiences.
  • Submit updated department syllabus prior to the first day of class and regularly check College email account and department mailbox.
  • Respond to emails/messages within 48 hours, except on weekends, and complete all required reports, such as attendance, Early Alerts, student progress reports, grade submissions, and administer and return surveys and student outcome assessments by the deadlines.
  • Submit final grades for each semester by the deadline established by the Registrar.
  • Comply with all College and Tennessee Board of Regents policies and guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Astronomy or Master's degree in Physics with some graduate hours in Astronomy or Master's degree and 18 combined graduate hours in Physics and Astronomy.
  • College-level teaching experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with various instructional delivery modes, including synchronous and asynchronous online teaching.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse student, faculty, and staff population.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Compensation

The rate of pay for this position is $650.00 - $740.00 per credit hour.
