Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified individual for the role of Sleep Technologist II, Comprehensive Epilepsy - per diem.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will operate under the general supervision of the Director, demonstrating substantial proficiency in executing all facets of Polysomnography for both clinical and research patients. At this level, the technologist should possess familiarity with commonly prescribed medications for sleep disorders, recognizing potential interactions that may adversely affect patients and communicating this information to the relevant medical professionals. A solid understanding of sleep hygiene practices is essential to support and reinforce recommendations made during initial consultations. The technologist will also identify and diagnose apneas during the performance of NPSG. Additionally, on an as-needed basis, the technologist will conduct mask fittings to enhance patient satisfaction with CPAP therapy. Responsibilities include writing and modifying protocols as necessary, scoring, training staff on new equipment, and transferring data to the optical disk storage system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Patient Information Management: Collect, analyze, and integrate patient data to identify and address specific needs (physical/mental limitations, emotional/physiological status, relevant medical/social history) and determine final testing parameters in collaboration with the ordering physician or clinical director. Ensure documentation is complete and accurate. Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to patients.
  • Testing Preparation: Prepare and calibrate necessary equipment for testing, ensuring proper functionality and making adjustments as needed. Apply electrodes and sensors according to established standards. Conduct appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure signal integrity and make adjustments as necessary. Perform PAP mask fittings.
  • Polysomnographic Procedures: Adhere to procedural protocols (e.g., MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration) to ensure accurate data collection. Follow lights-out procedures to establish and document baseline values (body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates). Conduct Polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are free from artifacts.
  • Data Documentation: Record routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant occurrences to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. Implement necessary interventions for patient safety and therapeutic needs (e.g., continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration). Follow lights-on procedures to verify data integrity and complete the data collection process.
  • Record Scoring: Score sleep/wake stages according to professionally accepted guidelines. Score clinical events (e.g., respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals) in accordance with center-specific protocols. Generate accurate reports by compiling sleep/wake and clinical event data.
  • Compliance and Professional Standards: Adhere to applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding safety and infection control. Perform routine and complex equipment maintenance. Evaluate sleep study-related equipment and inventory. Maintain current CPR or BCLS certification. Exhibit effective written and verbal communication skills. Address procedural inquiries from study participants by providing accurate information. Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply relevant policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify, candidates must possess a NYS OP License and current registration as a Polysomnographic Technologist, OR Registered Respiratory Therapist, OR Respiratory Therapy Technician competent in performing Polysomnographic Technology services, along with 5 years of experience in Polysomnography or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
