Everett, Washington, United States Helion Energy Full time
About Helion Energy

Helion Energy is a pioneering fusion power enterprise located in Everett, WA, dedicated to realizing the first operational fusion power plant, thereby facilitating a future characterized by limitless clean energy.

Our vision encompasses a world where energy is clean, dependable, and accessible to all.

Since our inception in 2013, we have successfully secured over $600 million in funding from notable investors, including Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group, to advance our mission.

Our latest prototype, Trenta, has achieved 10,000 high-power pulses and attained plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV).

We are currently focused on the development of Polaris, the inaugural machine designed to generate electricity through fusion, making this an exciting opportunity to join our team. We invite you to bring your expertise, experience, and commitment to effect positive change in the world.

Together, we can transform the vision of unlimited clean energy from fusion into a tangible reality.

Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to play a vital role in the development of the world's first fusion generator.

Your responsibilities will include supporting the primary pulsed-energy drive systems, encompassing magnetics, energy recovery and redistribution networks, diagnostics, and control systems.

You will also innovate methods for data measurement and acquisition in environments characterized by high noise, high field, and high voltage.

You will report directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager.

Your Contributions Will Include:
• Leading the design and implementation of high-voltage electrical power systems for pulsed magnetic coils
• Overseeing the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of high-power electrical systems for pulsed coils
• Developing electrical system architecture and collaborating with designers to create electrical schematics and installation drawings for system enhancements
• Selecting components to create cost-effective, scalable, and reliable design solutions while leading design reviews
• Working closely with end-users and operators to complete commissioning tasks and identify opportunities for design upgrades
• Creating long-term plans for solution development, documentation, and deployment while adhering to compliance, reporting, and safety standards
• Estimating costs and schedules related to electrical system design, procurement, and installation
• Defining technical requirements and scopes of work for suppliers and subcontractors, while mentoring less experienced staff

Essential Qualifications:
• 7+ years of experience in power systems engineering or high-power, high-voltage pulsed DC systems up to 40kV, particularly in system requirements and design phases
• Proven experience in the design, fabrication, installation, and testing of high-voltage electronics
• Expertise in solid-state switching technologies and a thorough understanding of power electronic components such as IGBTs, power MOSFETs, and SCRs
• Strong technical knowledge of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and practices, with experience in project leadership
• Proficiency in electronic troubleshooting using standard benchtop tools including oscilloscopes, Eloads, FRA, waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, and PCB design software
• Familiarity with Microsoft Suite, LTSpice, SIMtrex/Simplis, KiCAD, Altium, and Matlab

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $155,000 to $220,000.

This range may encompass various career levels and will be refined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Our comprehensive compensation package includes generous equity and benefits, such as:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision plans for employees and their families
  • 31 Days of Paid Time Off (21 vacation days and 10 sick days)
  • 13 Paid holidays, plus a company-wide winter break
  • Up to 5% employer 401(k) match
  • Short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance
  • Paid parental leave and support
  • Annual wellness stipend

Note:
We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences. We value hiring individuals based on their potential and encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every requirement.
