Job Summary:

The Medical Lab Technician will be responsible for performing complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues. This includes identifying bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms, analyzing chemical content of fluids, and cross-matching blood for transfusion and organ transplantation. The results of these tests will be used in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues
  • Identify bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms
  • Analyze chemical content of fluids
  • Cross-match blood for transfusion and organ transplantation
  • Prepare cells for use in cellular therapies
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited program (NAACLS/ABHES) or Associate degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college/university with 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semesters of biology, and twelve (12) semester hours of courses in chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination
  • Medical Lab Technician Certification through ASCP, AMT, ACHI or an equivalent certification agency must be obtained within 18 months of employment
  • Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements
