About the Role

Prometheus Federal Services is seeking a highly skilled Oncology Data Specialist to support the Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) in completing the VHA's backlog of incomplete cases in suspense and performing case ascertainment, data curation, and completing case submissions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Abstract cancer cases from start to finish, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct records maintenance, including submission of complete case abstracts, and timely case finding, ascertainment, and accession to client-approved software.
  • Code, stage, and enter data into the registry database, utilizing ICD-O-3, ICD-10-CM, AJCC TNM 8th ed., SEER Program Coding and Staging Manual, Solid Tumor Rules, and STORE Manual.
  • Comply with reporting requirements of state central cancer registry, the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer, and the VA Central Cancer Registry.
  • Perform data quality control activities on registry data and follow-up on each case abstracted for the life of the patient.
  • Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality of all information encountered, including verbal, written, and computerized data.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)/Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA).
  • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience in tumor registry as a Certified Tumor Registrar, with experience with Commission on Cancer facilities preferred.
  • Familiarity with VHA and proficiency with various cancer registry software systems, including OncoTraX, ERS, Oncolog, cNext, Rocky Mountain, Vista, etc.
  • Ability to obtain a public trust and authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship indefinitely.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Veterans Health Administration.
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification.
