We strive to cultivate leaders and build alliances to foster a grassroots movement aimed at achieving economic, racial, and environmental equity. Our organization comprises over 125,000 individual members and numerous affiliated religious, community, and labor organizations across the state.
Role Summary: The Chapter/Membership Organizer will play a crucial role in sustaining and expanding our chapters in various counties. This position involves engaging community members in ongoing initiatives, recruiting new members, and training individuals to take on leadership roles. The organizer will focus on building a robust base of members, volunteers, and grassroots leaders who resonate with our mission and actively participate in statewide campaigns.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expand membership in designated counties.
- Recruit, develop, and train members for leadership roles within local chapters and statewide initiatives.
- Assist members in establishing new local chapters, providing necessary resources and support.
- Manage and train members in areas lacking local organizers to engage in canvassing and phone banking efforts.
- Mobilize members to participate in various actions, including events and legislative sessions.
- Utilize outreach methods to identify and recruit potential members.
- Encourage individuals to become dues-paying members.
- Achieve outreach and membership goals, reporting progress regularly.
- Collaborate with the Director of Organizing to develop grassroots engagement strategies.
- Represent Progressive Maryland at community gatherings and meetings.
Qualifications:
- Experience in social justice advocacy or electoral campaigns.
- Hands-on experience in grassroots organizing, canvassing, and phone banking.
- Basic computer skills and a willingness to learn new digital tools.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Experience in training and managing volunteers.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to navigate complex situations.
- A deep understanding of community challenges and a commitment to addressing them.
- Willingness to reside in or relocate to Maryland or DC.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Maryland's political landscape.
- Experience with campaign management tools.
Travel Requirements: Reliable access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license is necessary, along with a laptop and phone for regular travel throughout the region.
Compensation and Benefits: Salary ranges from $50,000 to $65,000 based on experience. Benefits include comprehensive health, vision, and dental insurance, a retirement plan with employer matching, paid vacation, personal days, sick leave, and holidays. Progressive Maryland is a unionized workplace, and this position is part of the bargaining unit.
