Job Summary

To provide additional assistance to keep identified patients safe from self-harm, ensuring a safe environment and promoting diversionary activities as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directly observe identified patient(s) at all times during assigned shift
  • Remove items from patient room/surroundings that are potentially dangerous
  • Ensure implementation of patient safety protocols (elopement precautions)
  • Maintain patient's privacy and ensure confidentiality
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist patient with routine activities, such as meal selection and meal tray set-up
  • Coordinate care with appropriate hospital personnel, including Lead RN or assigned RN, Security, and other staff as needed
  • Document implementation of safety protocols, including proof of observation and other protocols on flow sheet
Requirements
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position
  • Work may occasionally require travel to other Carle Health facilities/hospitals
  • Ability to drive own vehicle for business purposes
Skills and Knowledge
  • Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English
  • Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser
